Bringing Your Teacup Yorkie Home: The First Week Checklist
Everything you need to prepare before your puppy arrives in your LA home.
The first week with your new Teacup Yorkie is exciting, a little overwhelming, and absolutely magical. Being prepared before your puppy comes home makes all the difference — for both of you. Here is a complete first-week checklist to make sure your Los Angeles home is ready for your tiny new family member.

What to Buy Before Pickup Day
🛒 New Puppy Shopping List
✅ Small breed puppy food (same brand breeder uses to start)
✅ Tiny food and water bowls
✅ Cozy small dog bed or crate with soft bedding
✅ Puppy pads for potty training
✅ Small harness and leash (never a collar for Teacups)
✅ Gentle puppy shampoo
✅ Soft bristle brush
✅ Small toys appropriate for tiny mouths
✅ Puppy playpen or baby gate to set boundaries
✅ Enzymatic cleaner for accident cleanup
Day one
The First 24 Hours
Keep things calm and quiet on day one. Your puppy has just left their mother and littermates and everything is new and overwhelming. Let them explore their new space at their own pace. Offer food and fresh water immediately. Show them where their bathroom pad is right away. Keep visitors to a minimum for the first day or two so your puppy can settle in without being overstimulated.
First week priority
Book Your Vet Visit
Schedule a wellness vet visit within the first five to seven days of bringing your puppy home. Los Angeles has many excellent veterinarians experienced with toy breeds. The vet will confirm the puppy’s health, review the vaccination record, and set you up with a schedule for upcoming vaccines, deworming, and preventative care. This visit also establishes a baseline of health for your puppy’s records.
🐾 Hypoglycemia Watch — Critical for Teacup Owners
Watch for signs of low blood sugar in the first few weeks: lethargy, shaking, glazed eyes, or loss of coordination. If you see these signs, rub a small amount of honey or Karo syrup on their gums immediately and contact your vet. Feed your puppy every 3 to 4 hours without fail during the first month.
